DEPUTY CHIEF ADJUDICATOR

During his time at Oxford, Jason was a prolific debater and won WUDC 2020, the HWS Round Robin 2019, and LSE Open 2019. In addition, Jason was a top ten speaker at all the aforementioned tournaments and EUDC 2019. Jason has also built up an extensive CA and judge CV around the world, having CAed tournaments such as IUB Ascension, NAUDC, and Amsterdam Open. When Jason isn’t speaking of judging, he coaches WSDC Canada, which won Online WSDC in 2020. However, in his eyes, his most impressive debate accolade was surviving the weekend he convened the 2018 Oxford IV.

Outside of school and debating, Jason has a passion for research and has been part of a team commissioned by the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom and the Canadian Parliament to research about the treatment of minorities in Iraqi Kurdistan and the prospects of investing in Iraqi Kurdistan respectively. THE APPLICATION PROCESS

Nominations open
15th of June

Via a google form, the community will have the opportunity to nominate individuals for a DCA position. Every person suggested over 5 times will get an email from us prompting them to apply. To clarify: being nominated does not guarantee acceptance, and not having been nominated does not mean you cannot submit an application or that your application will be declined. This is merely a tool to nudge people who the community thinks would be good additions to the team.

Applications open
18th of June

The application form will be released. Interested applicants must download and fill in the form, before sending it alongside a debating and judging CV, and a list of past motions they have set, by the 8th of July at 23:59 Madrid time. The application form is one of the main ways in which we gain insight into our applicants, so we encourage candidates to fill it in carefully and take appropriate time to do so.

Open feedback by the community
9th of July

We will publish a list of applicants, and the debating community will be invited to submit feedback on our potential DCA candidates, which may be non-anonymous or anonymous, but will in all cases be treated with the utmost discretion. Any feedback you send will be read and discussed only by Gigi Gil and Lucía Arce Cubas. Open feedback is very important - we can hardly be everywhere at once, and we see this as an invaluable tool to gather data on an applicant’s track record and potential. Feedback will close on the 19th of July at 23:59 Madrid time

Deliberation and online interviews
20th of July

Once we have collected most of our data, we will begin deliberating over our applicants. During this time, we may choose to approach some of the candidates to schedule an online interview with Gigi and Lucía. Getting an interview or not getting an interview is not in any way indicative of the possibility of getting the position, we merely see it as another tool to obtain information on our applicants.

DCAs announced
26th of July

Our chosen DCAs will be announced to the community! Yay!
